Wahyu 4:8

Konteks
4:8 Each one of the four living creatures had six wings 1  and was full of eyes all around and inside. 2  They never rest day or night, saying: 3

Holy Holy Holy is the Lord God, the All-Powerful, 4

Who was and who is, and who is still to come!”

Wahyu 5:6

Konteks

5:6 Then 5  I saw standing in the middle of the throne 6  and of the four living creatures, and in the middle of the elders, a Lamb that appeared to have been killed. 7  He had 8  seven horns and seven eyes, which 9  are the seven 10  spirits of God 11  sent out into all the earth.

Wahyu 7:14

Konteks
7:14 So 12  I said to him, “My lord, you know the answer.” 13  Then 14  he said to me, “These are the ones who have come out of the great tribulation. They 15  have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb!

Wahyu 8:7

Konteks

8:7 The 16  first angel blew his trumpet, and there was hail and fire mixed with blood, and it was thrown at the earth so that 17  a third of the earth was burned up, a third of the trees were burned up, and all the green grass was burned up.

Wahyu 9:17

Konteks
9:17 Now 18  this is what the horses and their riders 19  looked like in my 20  vision: The riders had breastplates that were fiery red, 21  dark blue, 22  and sulfurous 23  yellow in color. 24  The 25  heads of the horses looked like lions’ heads, and fire, smoke, and sulfur 26  came out of their mouths.

Wahyu 11:6

Konteks
11:6 These two have the power 27  to close up the sky so that it does not rain during the time 28  they are prophesying. They 29  have power 30  to turn the waters to blood and to strike the earth with every kind of plague whenever they want.

Wahyu 13:2

Konteks
13:2 Now 31  the beast that I saw was like a leopard, but its feet were like a bear’s, and its mouth was like a lion’s mouth. The 32  dragon gave the beast 33  his power, his throne, and great authority to rule. 34

Wahyu 14:1

Konteks
An Interlude: The Song of the 144,000

14:1 Then 35  I looked, and here was 36  the Lamb standing on Mount Zion, and with him were one hundred and forty-four thousand, who had his name and his Father’s name written on their foreheads.

Wahyu 14:13

Konteks

14:13 Then 37  I heard a voice from heaven say, “Write this:

‘Blessed are the dead,

those who die in the Lord from this moment on!’”

“Yes,” says the Spirit, “so they can rest from their hard work, 38  because their deeds will follow them.” 39

[4:8]  1 tn Grk “six wings apiece,” but this is redundant with “each one” in English.

[4:8]  2 tn Some translations render ἔσωθεν (eswqen) as “under [its] wings,” but the description could also mean “filled all around on the outside and on the inside with eyes.” Since the referent is not available to the interpreter, the exact force is difficult to determine.

[4:8]  3 tn Or “They never stop saying day and night.”

[4:8]  4 tn On this word BDAG 755 s.v. παντοκράτωρ states, “the Almighty, All-Powerful, Omnipotent (One) only of God…() κύριος ὁ θεὸς ὁ π. …Rv 1:8; 4:8; 11:17; 15:3; 16:7; 21:22.”

[4:8]  sn A quotation from (or an allusion to) Isa 6:3.

[5:6]  5 tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “then” to indicate the implied sequence within the narrative.

[5:6]  6 tn Perhaps, “in the middle of the throne area” (see L&N 83.10).

[5:6]  7 tn Or “slaughtered”; traditionally, “slain.” The phrase behind this translation is ὡς ἐσφαγμένον (Jw" ejsfagmenon). The particle ὡς is used in Greek generally for comparison, and in Revelation it is used often to describe the appearance of what the author saw. This phrase does not imply that the Lamb “appeared to have been killed” but in reality was not, because the wider context of the NT shows that in fact the Lamb, i.e., Jesus, was killed. See 13:3 for the only other occurrence of this phrase in the NT.

[5:6]  8 tn Grk “killed, having.” Because of the length and complexity of the Greek sentence, a new sentence was started here in the translation by supplying the pronoun “he.”

[5:6]  9 sn The relative pronoun which is masculine, referring back to the eyes rather than to the horns.

[5:6]  10 tc There is good ms evidence for the inclusion of “seven” (ἑπτά, Jepta; Ì24 א 2053 2351 ÏK). There is equally good ms support for the omission of the term (A 1006 1611 ÏA pc). It may have been accidentally added due to its repeated presence in the immediately preceding phrases, or it may have been intentionally added to maintain the symmetry of the phrases or more likely to harmonize the phrase with 1:4; 3:1; 4:5. Or it may have been accidentally deleted by way of homoioteleuton (τὰ ἑπτά, ta Jepta). A decision is difficult in this instance. NA27 also does not find the problem easy to solve, placing the word in brackets to indicate doubts as to its authenticity.

[5:6]  11 sn See the note on the phrase the seven spirits of God in Rev 4:5.

[7:14]  12 tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “so” to indicate the implied result of the previous question.

[7:14]  13 tn Though the expression “the answer” is not in the Greek text, it is clearly implied. Direct objects in Greek were frequently omitted when clear from the context.

[7:14]  14 tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “then” to indicate the implied sequence of events within the vision.

[7:14]  15 tn Because of the length and complexity of the Greek sentence, a new sentence was started here in the translation. Here καί (kai) has not been translated because of differences between Greek and English style.

[8:7]  16 tn Here καί (kai) has not been translated because of differences between Greek and English style.

[8:7]  17 tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “so that” because what follows has the logical force of a result clause.

[9:17]  18 tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “now” to indicate the introduction of the description of the horses and riders, which is somewhat parenthetical in the narrative.

[9:17]  19 tn Grk “and those seated on them.”

[9:17]  20 tn Grk “the vision”; the Greek article has been translated as a possessive pronoun (ExSyn 215).

[9:17]  21 tn L&N 79.31 states, “‘fiery red’ (probably with a tinge of yellow or orange).”

[9:17]  22 tn On this term BDAG 1022 s.v. ὑακίνθινος states, “hyacinth-colored, i.e. dark blue (dark red?) w. πύρινος Rv 9:17.”

[9:17]  23 tn On this term BDAG 446 s.v. θειώδης states, “sulphurous Rv 9:17.”

[9:17]  24 sn The colors of the riders’ breastplates parallel the three plagues of fire, smoke, and sulfur in v. 18.

[9:17]  25 tn Here καί (kai) has not been translated because of differences between Greek and English style.

[9:17]  26 tn Traditionally, “brimstone.”

[11:6]  27 tn Or “authority.”

[11:6]  28 tn Grk “the days.”

[11:6]  29 tn Because of the length and complexity of the Greek sentence, a new sentence was started here in the translation. Here καί (kai) has not been translated because of differences between Greek and English style.

[11:6]  30 tn Or “authority.”

[13:2]  31 tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “now” to indicate the parenthetical nature of the following description of the beast.

[13:2]  32 tn Here καί (kai) has not been translated because of differences between Greek and English style.

[13:2]  33 tn Grk “gave it”; the referent (the beast) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[13:2]  34 tn For the translation “authority to rule” for ἐξουσία (exousia) see L&N 37.35.

[14:1]  35 tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “then” to indicate the implied sequence within the narrative.

[14:1]  36 tn The phrase “and here was” expresses the sense of καὶ ἰδού (kai idou).

[14:13]  37 tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “then” to indicate the implied sequence within the narrative.

[14:13]  38 tn Or “from their trouble” (L&N 22.7).

[14:13]  39 tn Grk “their deeds will follow with them.”
